About Our Chapter

Welcome to Chicktime Canyon Lake! My name is Liz Barger and I am the Managing Leader of our chapter!  SONY DSCI began my Chicktime journey googling for volunteer opportunities in my area and came across Chicktime. My daughter Katy and I soon attended Chicktime and we were hooked. I look forward to it every month. I can’t wait to see the girls at New Life and I believe it is important to be there for them. It is an indescribable feeling when one of the girls remembers me and gives me a hug. It makes me feel good! When I was asked to join the leadership team I was happy to help. It is my honor to lead the Canyon Lake chapter and I hope to see you soon at New Life! 🙂

Our chapter believes in the multiplication effect of generous and radical giving. Giving our time is just as valuable if not MORE valuable than our treasure.  Our chapter members (yes, YOU) are so filled with love, talents, and gifts that our New Life girls experience God’s blessing through us. It is our greatest hope that someday His blessing flows through us with such abundance that these girl’s lives are transformed to the point they can forget that their lives were once broken and shattered… that they feel the solid blessings of God in their lives… and that they come to know and BELIEVE that they are blessed to be a blessing!!

We would love for you to join us on our journey to add love and joy to the lives of these children. Our volunteers are what keeps our chapter going and that is why we need you too! If you’re interested in becoming a member or receiving event invitations, select the “Join a Chapter” link and then click TX- Canyon Lake.

Joyfully,
Liz Barger

Our History

Chicktime Canyon Lake was founded in October of 2006 by Lori Rhodes and her daughter Katy (who was 15 at the time). Chicktime Canyon Lake is the original Chicktime chapter. The first official Chicktime event was held in January of 2007. Lori and Katy began this adventure because they decided to go out and find the pain in the world and do something about it. They didn’t have to look far because there was a home just 10 minutes from their home where 80 young girls were recovering from severe abuse/neglect. Lori and Katy served together at New Life (but not in direct contact with the girls) for about a month but were unable to work directly with the girls because Katy wasn’t 21, the age required by the center to have direct contact.  And so the story unfolds… as a mother created a program and others jumped on board to usher their daughters (and themselves) on a journey that would change their lives forever! To hear the details, just ask Lori or Katy, they love to tell the story of how Chicktime ‘came to be’.
