About Our Chapter

Hello my name is Sandra Rodriguez, leader of the Chicktime Humble chapter.

Just a little bit about me, I’m originally from Channelview Texas, born and raised. I graduated from The Art institute of Houston in 2004 with my degree in Multi Media Design. I have been married to my wonderful husband Joe since 2008 and he’s been my best friend and my rock since we first met back in 2003. Together we always believed prayer is the answer to any problem.  But the days before I actually had a strong understanding of  how powerful prayer really can be most of my days were filled with worry and stress…I stressed and worried about everyday things like bills, work, projects, and trying to figuring out how long it will take for me to pay off my student loan!  😆  But what I was mostly worried about was where my life was headed because for 6 years we tried everything we could to have a baby. Because my mind was consumed with this infertility problem I began to forget about more important things in life like devoting my time to help someone other than myself.

During this “chaotic” part of my life we finally got the wonderful news that we were expecting twins, but unfortunately that stress, amongst other horrible feelings, came right back after losing them at 14 weeks pregnant.

During the few months after the loss I felt not only stressed but completely hopeless and that’s when I turned to God. As I cried out to the Lord pleading for His guidance I felt something deep inside, as if He was telling me ”don’t worry, something big is coming.” After a while I started to feel a sense of spiritual healing coming over me and that’s when I found out about Chicktime.  I felt it was my calling and it also gave me something to get excited about and look forward to once again. I felt like God lead me to something that would not only help heal my spiritual being but more importantly to help heal others.

Now after working with Chicktime for a few months it made me realize how insignificant those worries I once had really were. It has taught me to count my blessings and not to agonize over the things I cannot control. God has a plan for all his children; we just have to follow his path.

What I love about Chicktime is that it’s a group of women who have a desire to cultivate the lives of the woman and children at Family Time who are victims of domestic violence. Our mission is to encourage, inspire, and increase their self-esteem. We give our time and talents to give back to the Humble community by providing skillful learning opportunities in a positive atmosphere.

In regards to some of my talents, I enjoy cooking, painting, decorating, drawing, and kid crafts which I love doing with my nieces and nephews.  😀   Let me know what talents and hobbies you have and together we can turn it into a workshop to share with the woman and children at Family Time.

We would love for you to join us on our journey to add love and joy to the lives of these children. Our volunteers are what keeps our chapter going and that is why we need you too!
