About Our Chapter

My reasons for joining Chicktime are two-fold.  First, I was challenged by my mentor from my two-year post doc program to create a social change project, so I began looking and trying to figure out exactly how I was going to create social change in my own area.  I considered about three different projects; however, I continued to run into roadblocks for each so out of desperation, I searched the internet for “volunteer organizations” in my town and through this website, found Chicktime. After exploring their website (I also explored the chapter closest to my town, after being shocked that there wasn’t a chapter here already), I just felt that this was the social change project that I was looking for! It seems that the pieces quickly fell into pace as everything just came together so quickly.
 
My second reason for joining Chicktime is more personal than professional. Since 1999, I’ve worked with children and their families in a therapeutic environment, including working in a local children’s home, and I know first-hand that many of the girls in foster care or in group homes are really seeking positive role models and mentors, although they may not even realize it themselves at the time but I have personally seen the impact that a relationship with a positive role model or mentor can have on these girls and I just felt that Chicktime was a tool that would allow me to help these girls and to help my community.  I am looking forward to making new friendships with my co-leaders and with all the volunteers who join us but am especially looking forward to the relationships we will make as a chapter with the agency administrators and the girls with whom we meet. I know Chicktime Macon will make a positive impression on them, as well as our city as a whole so I can’t wait to get started!
