About Our Chapter

I am so excited to a part of the Chicktime family! For me, this is a dream come true. Since graduating from high school (many years ago), I started volunteering and working in the non-profit field. I still work in this field and I love every minute of it! I get to make a living fulfilling my passion for helping others and when you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life!
My story starts when I was a young girl growing up in Roxbury, Massachusetts. I was an only child to a young single mother.  With the help of my Nana and our “village”, my mother worked hard to put my life on a path for success. I don’t think I appreciated what she did, but now, I get it. Life for us was not terribly hard, but it wasn’t easy either. I didn’t always have what I wanted, but I had what I needed.  Growing up in the inner city, I saw a lot: poverty, drug abuse, alcoholism, domestic violence, crime and the list goes on. Even in my own family, these things existed. Fortunately for me, being aware of all of this made me determined to make a better life for myself and for others.
Throughout my lifetime, I have been fortunate to have exposure to some great opportunities in life. Many women, some men, and lots of people have taught me life skills, given me job opportunities, gave me advice, or saw something in me that I did not see. For this, I am grateful.
So, why Chicktime? Because I’ll admit that I have not always listened to God. But I am now, and I believe Chicktime is meant to be part of my life story. I am not perfect, and I have made mistakes in life, but I believe mistakes are life’s way of helping you grow.
First in my life is my son-my gift from God. Being his mother has made my life’s purpose even more clear. Future generations need us. My hope is that my son will have an understanding of what it means to help others by seeing his mother in action and by the intentional exposure to opportunities that he receives.
My personal goal for this chapter is to give these girls what I had which is inspiration, opportunity, hope and direction. My vision for Chicktime Marietta is that our chapter can fulfill the vision of Chicktime national to raise awareness of child abuse, empower women to fulfill their passions and to expose the next generation to a wide array of gifts and talents so that they can look inside themselves and identify their own. But also, to let them know that we all have a past and while you can’t go back and change the beginning, you can start where you are and change the ending. My hope is that the girls we serve will be inspired by at least one of us and we will be inspired by them-it only takes one.
This chapter of my life is dedicated to my mother and my Nana, the two women in my life who made me who I am.  Many of these girls do not have a Mother or Nana like I did. It takes a village. We need you!
Chicktime Marietta invites you to be the change you wish to see in the world! We welcome you as a volunteer, leader, workshop facilitator, and supporter.  Please contact me at marietta@chicktime.com to learn how you can help.
