Meet The Leaders
Why I serve a leadership role with Chicktime
I retired from the U.S. Navy in August 2016. My military service provided me the opportunity to travel around the United States and other countries. In all of my travels, I have always volunteered to work with children programs because I believe children deserve to have a safe environment in which they can thrive and be the best of who they are meant to be. I have volunteered as a Big Sister through elementary school programs, served as a group leader in Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) programs, served on different community service committees raising monies for student scholarships, and I volunteer serving food at local churches to families in need.
Now having the opportunity to put down roots (so to speak), I wanted to get involved in my local committee and make a positive difference through working with an organization with similar philosophies and a dedication to being a positive influence to children. I found Chicktime while doing an internet search for volunteer opportunities in my area. After reading the “about Chicktime” section, I knew I wanted to be a part of this organization.
My passions and gifts
I am compassionate, perceptive, a good listener, and a patient teacher. In my personal experience of working with children, I have found that an act of kindness, showing genuine concern and empathy can go a long way in having a positive impact on their life. I live by the philosophy that “I don’t know what experiences a child may be going through, but I can be a part of giving them a positive moment in their life”.
Hobbies and interests
I am an avid reader. I am currently brushing up on my Spanish and learning French. I love to cook and experiment with new recipes, or tweaking old recipes. I enjoy plays, ballet and musical events. And, I enjoy international travel. I am very close to my family, and enjoy spending time my family and friends as much as possible.
